Skiing
using a Monoski:
A
monoski is a piece of equipment that allows people with
disabilities affecting their legs to ski sitting down.
The skier sits in a “bucket” seat, this is
mounted on a suspension system, underneath is a standard
alpine ski. Outriggers are used to help with balance,
turn initiation and moving around on the flat. Outriggers
are similar to a forearm crutch with a short ski attached
to the bottom. The Monoski requires strength, balance
and co-ordination to master, but it allows the skier to
ski independently wherever they want to go.
