Skiing
using a biski:
The
Biski is a more stable piece of sit down equipment than
the monoski. The design allows a person with a high level
of disability to ski by transferring their centre of mass
from one side to the other. Outriggers can be used to
help with balance, turn initiation and moving around on
the flat. Outriggers are similar to a forearm crutch with
a short ski attached to the bottom. If you are unable
to grip or struggle to co-ordinate arm movements fixed
outriggers may be used. These are attached to the biski
and are similar to stabilisers on a bicycle. They allow
you to tilt over to make a turn but stop you from falling
over. An instructor will use tethers attached to the biski
to assist with turning and speed control.
