Saturday 18th March sees the launch of the second
anniversary ski challenge in the Austrian Ziller Valley. The challenge
event is a week long marathon of skiing all the pistes in the valley
– 570km in total. The event has been organised by midlands
based ski company Redpoint Holidays (www.redpoint.co.uk) to celebrate
10 years of successful operating in the ski business.
The Ziller Valley is used by Redpoint as their exclusive base, and
so was the obvious choice as the trial location. Participants will
be required to ski all 570km of the pistes, including the black
runs, in just one week - an average of over 80km each day. For those
who might find this a little daunting, Redpoint have built in three
levels of challenge. The blue team will ski all 152km of blue runs
in the valley, the red team will ski all 346km of red runs as well
as the blue runs and the black team will attempt to ski it all.
“We wanted to it make tough, but accessible
to skiers of differing levels,” explains Nina Hasinski, Co-Director
of Redpoint. “We feel that we have come up with a course which
will challenge the advanced skier, but also offer something for
our less confident customers. Ten years in the business is a considerable
milestone for us and we feel that the ski challenge weeks are a
fitting way to celebrate this achievement.”
Each team will be led by a Redpoint guide, who will be responsible
for route-finding and recording the path taken. ”It will be
great fun and the good thing is that anybody can join in, as long
as they can ski the blue runs,” said Nina. “Having said
that, it won’t be easy. Some of our most experienced guests
are concerned about whether it will be possible for the black team
to ski everything in a week – but they still want to give
it a try!”
Redpoint are also organising a series of summer
challenges as part of their anniversary celebrations. Teams will
be competing to cross Austria from North to South in just one week.
